Jambo Blast - Aug 2024 Literacy Success!

Dear Friends of Watumull Children’s Education,

One of our biggest goals in Kenya and India is to boost English literacy among our students.  Our children’s’ reading skills will determine opportunities for their future employment.

I was dismayed to find that most schools in the slums have no reading books whatsoever.  Picture books are essential for young ones to learn!

So Watumull Children places hundreds of quality books in the classrooms we support.  The children love the colorful illustrations, and have a wide selection of materials to practice reading.

I conduct teacher workshops in many schools, training the teachers in using these stories.  We are watching literacy scores on standardized tests go up.  But the best is that these books are opening up new worlds for our students as they read about life outside the slums.

       Thank you to everyone who has given us books to take, and funding to buy used books in Nairobi.  These books are loved and used over and over!
